The Details

At My Service Depot, we’re proud to provide our Smart Service software to help field service companies run their businesses. We see how they have succeeded as companies and as employers of hard-working employees in skilled trades, like HVAC, plumbing, electrical work, fire protection, landscape design, and construction. We believe that for many looking for an alternative to traditional four-year college programs, a career in these industries offers a path to success, as skilled workers and even business owners.

That’s why we started the Smart Service Scholarship Fund. Administered by the Delaware County Foundation, the Smart Service Scholarship Fund awards $1,000 twice a year (Spring and Fall semesters) to students entering into, or continuing their education in, skilled trades education and training programs. Applying is simple. Review the eligibility requirements below, complete an online application, and submit a short video (or written) essay.

The deadline for spring semester 2018 is June 2, 2017. We’ll announce the recipient on July 6, 2017.
Scholarship awards will be available for qualified educational expenses and paid directly to the recipient’s educational institution.

Eligibility Requirements

The applicant must be attending or planning to attend an accredited program, certificate program, or a degree program (which may be a four year or non-four year program) in the skilled trades or a related field in 2018 (full time or part time).

The applicant must have graduated high school during the past 15 years or will have graduated high school at the time of receiving the award with a GPA of 2.5 or higher.

More questions? Click "Submit Application" below for more details on eligibility or call the Delaware County Foundation at 614-764-2332.

Submitting  Your Video Essay

In completing the application for the Smart Service Scholarship, you’ll be asked for a short written or video essay (no more than five minutes in length). The essay is designed to explain your interest in an education and career path in the skilled trades. The details are up to you. Here are a few possible topics:

  • Why your chosen field is of interest to you,
  • How will the Smart Service Scholarship advance your goals, or
  • What role do you see technology playing in the industry that you’re pursuing

Written essays will be accepted but we prefer video—it helps us get to know you a little better. If you do choose to create a short video, you should upload it to your YouTube channel as an unlisted video (following these instructions) and include the link when you submit your application.

By submitting a video essay, you are permitting My Service Depot and the Delaware County Foundation to publish your content on its websites, social media outlets, and via any other channel.
